With a 30 year history in renewable energy, Andrew Murfin brings unique perspectives gained from delivering new energies in the biofuels, offshore wind, and nuclear power industry. With a passion for change, Andrew has motivated established energy companies to invest in alternative energies across the globe.

In Biofuels since 2008, he spent the first 4 years in Ottawa leading development of second generation ethanol, which is now being successfully implemented in Brazil by Raizen. Andrew has led Shell’s Advanced Biofuels investments since 2013. Committed to seeing delivery, Andrew is currently a Director in Varennes Carbon Recycling, a waste to fuels project under construction in Quebec.

Andrew learned the value of low carbon energy early in his career, establishing a renewable energy business within the UK’s nuclear electricity company. Leadership in the offshore wind industry over 10 years led to two offshore wind projects constructed, one of which for many years was the worlds’ largest: London Array. During this time, Andrew also served on the Board of the British Wind Energy Association.

A Chartered Engineer with a first degree in electromechanical engineering, Andrew is a Fellow of the Institute of Energy.

Professor Sir David King is Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, University of Cambridge; Founder and Chair of the Centre for Climate Repair in the University; an Affiliate Partner of SYSTEMIQ Limited; and Senior Strategy Adviser to the President of Rwanda. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1991; Foreign Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002; knighted in 2003; and made “Officier dans l’ordre national de la Légion d’Honeur” in 2009.

He was the UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser, 2000-2007, the Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative on Climate Change, 2013-2017. As Govt Chief Scientific Adviser he raised the need for governments to act on climate change and was instrumental in creating the British £1 billion Energy Technologies Institute.

He has travelled widely to persuade all countries to take action on climate change. He initiated an in-depth risk analysis approach to climate change, working with the Governments of China and India in particular, and initiated a collaborative programme, now known as Mission Innovation, to create a £23bn pa research and development international exercise, which involves 22 countries and the EC, to deliver all technologies needed to complete the transition into a fossil-fuel-free world economy.

Local and regional supply is an important attribute that allows for efficient supply chains We employ our exclusively licensed technology and use a proven, efficient, and ASTM-approved pathway to produce our fuels, which have been shown to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% and up to 85%, and meet the US Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2), California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (REDII), ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), and other national and regional standards.

The leading technology and process we use was developed and scaled-up over a decade to enable countries, companies, and industries to address climate change and to contribute to global, national, and corporate carbon reduction goals and mandates.

Canada’s leading integrated energy company, Suncor Energy Inc., and leading Japanese trading and investment company, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui) invested $15 million and $10 million, respectively, to partner with LanzaTech to establish LanzaJet. In addition to its equity investment, Suncor has contracted to offtake sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel produced by LanzaJet at its Freedom Pines Fuels facility to provide its jet fuel and distillate customers with sustainable fuel solutions. The flexibility of the technology to utilize a wide range of locally available low carbon and waste feedstock to produce fuel also attracted the attention of All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s 5-Star airline, resulting in an offtake agreement signed for the purchase sustainable aviation fuel. In February 2021, through a collaboration with British Airways and Hanger 51, International Airlines Group’s (IAG) industry leading accelerator programme, we have welcomed British Airways aboard as an investor and off-taker from the Freedom Pines Fuels Facility. In April, 2021, we have welcomed Shell as our latest investor. In addition to its initial investment in LanzaJet and similar to the phased investment approach used with all of the LanzaJet investors, Shell will have the opportunity to make further investments in the construction of larger-scale production facilities over the coming years.. These investments and offtake agreements provide us with strong partnerships in the energy, commodity trading, and aviation space to advance LanzaJet’s global growth, accelerate commercialization of its technology, and scale the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

He has had an extensive industry experience in Energy business especially for oil & gas investment business such as E&P and LNG since 1994, when he began his career in Mitsui & Co., Ltd. shortly after graduating from Tokyo University (Mineral Development Engineering).

Jim has had a passion for flight from an early age! Graduating with a First in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Southampton University, UK, Jim subsequently joined British Airways on their Engineering Graduate scheme. Starting off his career as a flight test engineer, Jim then moved on to hold a number of senior technical positions within Engineering and Flight Operations, mainly related to the safe and fuel-efficient performance of BA’s aircraft.

Over the last 20 years Jim has worked in the fuel supply side of the business with responsibilities for fuel operations, procurement, supply risk, bulk supply chain development, strategy and enabling the introduction of more sustainable aviation fuels before becoming BA’s Head of Fuel in 2012.

In 2014, following the formation of IAG, Jim became Head of Fuel at IAG and led the transformation of its supply chain business in the UK, Spain and Ireland. More recently, Jim moved to a new role of IAG Programme Director – Sustainable Flight to lead and give greater focus to the realisation of sustainable aviation fuels to underpin the delivery of the Group’s ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050 – the first airline group in the world to give such a commitment.

Jimmy Samartzis is the Chief Executive Officer of LanzaJet, Inc., a global leader in renewable fuels technology and production of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. Jimmy is leading the company through a scale-up in technology and production, with renewable fuel refineries planned in multiple countries – US, EU, UK, Japan, Canada, and others. LanzaJet’s technology was developed in partnership with the US Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the company is financially supported by strategic investors Suncor, Mitsui, and LanzaTech.

Jimmy has spent the majority of his career focused on climate change, advancing the decarbonization of industries reliant on fossil fuels. Jimmy’s work in the airline industry led to pioneering test flights, the first commercial-scale renewable jet fuel deal and commercial production, and a global industry agreement to enable a reduction in aviation emissions and adoption of sustainable fuels. Additionally, he has led a global coalition of stakeholders across the value chain to break down the barriers of the commercialization of renewable fuels.

Jimmy previously served in several executive roles at United Airlines including as chief executive of a $2B business unit, and as an executive advisor to clients globally through his work with Oliver Wyman, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Slalom. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, a global leader in high-energy particle physics.

Jimmy earned his M.B.A. from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, a M.A. from John Hopkins University, and an B.A. from the University of Chicago. He is actively engaged in the community as a Director on several Boards of nonprofit organization focused on youth development, an issue of importance and dedication throughout his life.

Dr. Laurel Harmon provides policy direction and leadership on international legislative and regulatory matters and develops collaborative research and demonstration projects for LanzaTech. Dr. Harmon received her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Michigan and has over 30 years experience in policy matters and technology development. Dr. Harmon joined LanzaTech from Striatus Inc, where she consulted on proposal and project development in advanced technologies, including energy and renewable fuels. After receiving her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Michigan, Dr Harmon joined ERIM, a non-profit research organization, to conduct applied R&D for a variety of defense and other government customers. Later she was a technical co-founder of Nonlinear Dynamics, a company specializing in applied pattern recognition.

Andrea Decore is currently Vice President, Low Carbon Fuels & GHG Offsets at Suncor Energy Inc., Canada's leading integrated energy company. Her team is responsible for growing a renewable fuels, low carbon hydrogen and GHG offsets business that materially contributes to Suncor's earnings and net-zero CO₂ emissions goal. Previously Andrea was Suncor's Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development.

Though trained as a commercial lawyer with particular expertise in commodities marketing and trading, Andrea has spent the last fifteen years in business roles. She has led large and small teams in various commercial areas, including mergers & acquisitions, project economics & capital allocation, supply chain, business development, and refined products marketing and trading.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, running, playing golf and spending time with her husband and two children, aged thirteen and sixteen.

Dr. Jennifer Holmgren is the Chief Executive Officer of LanzaTech. Jennifer has over 20 years of experience in the energy sector including a proven track record in the development and commercialization of fuels and chemicals technologies. Prior to joining LanzaTech, she was Vice President and General Manager of the Renewable Energy and Chemicals business unit at UOP LLC, a Honeywell Company. In that role, she led UOP’s renewable business from its inception through to the achievement of significant revenues from the commercialization of multiple novel biofuels technologies.

Dr. Jennifer Holmgren is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and holds a B.Sc. degree from Harvey Mudd College, a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Chicago. She currently serves on multiple external advisory boards. She is the author or co-author of 50 US patents, 20 scientific publications and is the 2003 recipient of the Council for Chemical Research’s (CCR) Malcolm E. Pruitt Award.

In 2010, she was the recipient of the Leadership Award from the Civil Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI) for her work in establishing the technical and commercial viability of sustainable aviation biofuels. In 2015 Dr. Holmgren and her team at LanzaTech were awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Presidential Green Chemistry Award and she was awarded the BIO Rosalind Franklin Award for Leadership in Industrial Biotechnology. Sustainability magazine, Salt, named Dr. Holmgren as the world’s most compassionate business woman in 2015. In October 2015, Dr. Holmgren was awarded the Outstanding Leader Award in Corporate Social Innovation from the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago. Dr. Holmgren was named as #1 of the 100 most influential leaders in the Bioeconomy and LanzaTech was named the Hottest Company in the Bioeconomy by Biofuels Digest for 2016-2017. A TEDx Chicago speaker, Jennifer is also the 2018 recipient of the AIChE Fuels & Petrochemicals Division Award as well as the Biofuels Digest Global Bioenergy Leadership Award.
