LanzaJet Celebrates Third Anniversary of Operations as it Readies to Open World’s First Plant of its Kind This Year

Company Reflects on 13 Years of Technology Development and Scale-up, and its Progress Toward Commercialization of Alcohol-to-Jet Technology; Widespread Adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel

DEERFIELD, Il., June 1, 2023 – LanzaJet, a leading sustainable fuels technology company and sustainable fuels producer, celebrated its third anniversary of operations since being founded May 28, 2020, with a mission to accelerate the global energy transition through leading alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology and production of drop-in, low-carbon sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). LanzaJet was successfully spun-out of LanzaTech following a decade of research, development, and scale-up in partnership with the Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL), a U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory.

Over the past three years, LanzaJet has made historic progress in reducing aviation emissions throughout the world. LanzaJet’s Freedom Pines Fuels, the world’s first ATJ production facility, will open later this year and significantly increase the amount of SAF in the United States – with 10 million gallons of sustainable fuels being produced annually in Soperton, GA. This first-of-its-kind project was made possible through investment and support from the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, Breakthrough Energy, LanzaTech, Mitsui & Co., Suncor Energy, Shell, British Airways, and All Nippon Airways (ANA).

LanzaJet’s global footprint also includes partnership milestones in India, Australia, Europe, and the United Kingdom. In India, LanzaJet is collaborating with Indian Oil Corporation to develop the country’s first alcohol-to-jet SAF plant as a joint venture. In Australia, LanzaJet is deploying its ATJ technology for a SAF production facility supported by the Queensland Government, Qantas, and Airbus as part of the Australian SAF Partnership. Finally, in the United Kingdom, LanzaJet has pursued innovative projects such as Project Speedbird, a partnership with British Airways to produce SAF from woody waste and agricultural residues in the United Kingdom. Further, LanzaJet has set a goal of producing 1B gallons of sustainable aviation fuel in the by 2030 and is on pace to achieve that milestone.

As part of the anniversary celebration, LanzaJet held employee gatherings at the company’s metropolitan Chicago corporate headquarters in Deerfield, Illinois as well as at LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels in Soperton, Georgia.

Since being founded in 2020, LanzaJet has established a footprint in the US, United Kingdom, the European Union, India, and Australia, and continues to expand in order to meet the aviation industry’s demand for SAF. To accommodate this fast-paced growth, LanzaJet is undertaking a major office expansion that will expand its global headquarters in the Chicago metropolitan area.
