LanzaJet Joins the World Economic Forum’s Global Innovators Community
CHICAGO, July 7, 2021 – LanzaJet, a leader in developing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), announced today that it had become a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Innovators Community, a select and invitation-only group of the world’s most promising start-ups and scale-ups that are on the forefront of ethical technological and business model innovation.

As our world addresses global challenges, the World Economic Forum’s Global Innovators Community is a collective of innovative companies working on solutions to our world’s most significant challenges. The aviation industry contributes 3% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. The United Nations expects airplane emissions of CO2 to triple by 2050. While the aviation industry is committed to using sustainable fuel, a recent WEF report published in November found that although enough sustainable feedstocks exist to power the entire industry on SAF, the production plants currently planned worldwide would only have the capacity to produce 4 million tons annually each year, around 1% of projected fuel demand.
“Gaining access to sustainable aviation fuel is critical to helping the aviation industry reduce the emissions from airplanes and the traditional fossil fuels used to power them,” said Samartzis. Earlier this year, LanzaJet announced that its construction of the first Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) facility of its kind in Soperton, Georgia, is already underway. The plant is expected to start up in 2022 when it will begin to produce 10 million gallons per year of sustainable fuels – SAF and renewable diesel.
