Sonya Vial is Vice President, Downstream & Low Carbon Process Technology at Shell, based in Houston, appointed in 2025. She leads a global organization of deep technical experts developing and deploying differentiated technology solutions in support of Shell’s strategy and delivering value to the lines of business.
Sonya brings over 30 years of experience at Shell, with leadership roles spanning process engineering, chemical and refining operations, process safety, technology, technoeconomic evaluations, and carbon management. Over the past decade, she has focused on integrating sustainable technology solutions across the energy value chain.
Sonya holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University and is originally from the New Orleans area.
